The Gilded Serpent presents...
Barbara Bolan
Barbara Bolan has 25 years of experience in the music business. She has served as general manager and marketing head of Virgin Records America, I.R.S. Records, Ark21 and Beyond Music. Each record label is unique in its size, genre assets (punk rock, alternative rock, just plain "rawk," pop, dance, blues), distribution and marketing strategies. Barbara has developed and implemented marketing plans for a multitude of diverse acts including Tina Turner, R.E.M., Blondie, Lenny Kravitz, Yanni and Motley Crue. She has managed label marketing, publicity and creative service departments and participated in strategic and financial planning.
Prior to label work, Barbara gained sales experience in record distribution at RCA and A&M Pacific. During this career phase, she worked with music merchants, both retailers and wholesalers to gain shelf space for artists' singles.
Barbara attended the University of Michigan and received her Bachlor of Arts at the University of Cincinnati. She was a professional singer for five years following college, performing regionally with popular music groups and in recording studios. She sang pop, rock, showtunes, and R&B for which she was declared an honorary Soul Sister by the Harlem Globe Trotters (not bad for a diminutive white girl).
Since 2001, Barbara has worked with Miles Copeland as part of Bellydance Superstars Productions. Along with the small team, she markets and sells the music and apparel products and the tours and events including performances and workshops. The Bellydance Superstars are the world's first professional touring bellydance troupe and represent the world of bellydance at the highest level. The troupe has just returned from a highly successful tour in Europe with sell out shows in London and Paris. In Paris, they performed at the famed Folies Bergere, which was filmed for a DVD release in February 2005.
Barbara has a daughter who attends the University of California at Berkeley.
