The Gilded Serpent presents...

Dee Dee Asad

Dee Dee Asad lives in Dallas, Texas where she and her husband Ahmad own “Little Egypt”, the largest Egyptian store in the Southern United States. She is a native of Cairo Egypt and came to the U.S. in 1982. Dee Dee has made her home in Texas and has spent 23 years in the Lone Star State. The Asads have three children, Nora, Nelly and Nader.

Dee Dee travels to Egypt an average of 4-5 times per year. Although her trips are mainly for business, she manages to make time to spend with her mother and sister who still reside in Cairo. Dee Dee returns with costumes, jewelry, statues, and other items for the “Little Egypt”.

The Asads began hosting workshops in 2003. They bring the best of Egyptian instructors and dancers to the United States, such as Raqia Hassan, Dina, Aida Nour, Dandash, Magdy El-Leisy, Mona el Said and many others. In 2005 the Asads launched their “Queen of Raks Sharki Competition” during the Ahlan Cairo Nights in Dallas, Texas. The winner’s prize was a trip to Egypt to perform in one of the grand gala shows that is part of Raqia's Ahlan wa Sahlan Festival held in Cairo.

Dee Dee has always loved watching belly dance and being involved within the community. “After all,” she says, “ it’s in my Egyptian blood!”
