The Gilded Serpent presents...

Artemis

Artemis (aka Diana) is a native San Franciscan (Mission District), now residing in Pacific Grove, California. She is a graduate of S.F. State University, with a degree in Marine Biology, and graduate work in Marine Microbiology.

She started dancing in 1976, her first teacher being Sudan, and then studied with many teachers here and abroad. She has been teaching since 1983 and was director of the Casbah Dancers until the mid 1990s, and performed in restaurants and other show venues in various locations. She was Hassan Deeb’s and Jamaica’s first belly dance teacher.

She is the creator and operator of Artemis Imports, a world-wide belly dance mail-order business, as well as vendor at belly dance events. Everyone who knows the Artemis booth, knows that there are many innovative and exclusive items, created by Artemis, she loves to offer unusual items.

Besides the belly dance business, “Diana” is also a Clinical Laboratory Chemist, presently working part-time, and an artist, showing in galleries locally and in Europe. She is very passionate about both dance and art, and can often be found at Tango Milongas, when not doing belly dance.

The most important things in her life are relationships, art (both dance and painting), and experiencing other cultures and their peoples. Besides Morocco, she also travels to Croatia yearly, to touch bases with her maternal family, and looks forward to seeing belly dance grow there too!
