Shabnam

Shabnam is teacher and performer based in Oakland California. Of Persian, El Salvadorean, Scottish, Irish background, her multi -cultural heritage greatly influenced her interest in Ethnic Dance. Her professional dance career started in 2003 and found great success in dance competitions. Her Awards include 2006 Ultimate Soloist, 2006 People's Choice Belly Dancer, 2005 Belly Dancer of the Universe and 2005 Belly Dancer of the Year.

Following a successful solo career, she started troupe Ooh La La, and Modern Fusion Dance company that combines unique choreography and staging with creative costuming. Ooh La La's awards include 2005 Troupe of the Year and 2006 People's Choice Troupe.

Shabnam currently teaches workshop intensives in Downtown Oakland for Basic through Advanced levels.

There were times she could barely walk due to a flare up of Lupus, but she always came to rehearsal and gave a 110%--despite the pain or trouble, she was going through that day. Rhonda soon became the troupe mascot because of her courage and commitment. "If Rhonda can do it, you can do it!" became our motto. She was a great source of inspiration and motivation for all members of Ooh La La.
